Artist Development

Cardo

One of the key elements to any artist's success is artist development. Sadly, there is very little of this anymore. Record companies are not investing the time nor the money into developing new artists. This is probably for a variety of reasons, but the bottom line is that record companies are losing money and market share; hence, they are unwilling to invest in new artists. As a result, upcoming promising new talent is left to fend for themselves. Not an easy task. Particularly with no guidance.

The goal of artist development is to bring out the creative best of the artist. This is done by paring the artist with a compatible producer, one that knows how to work with an artist, not one that tries to change or dictate an artist's instincts; but rather nurtures, develops, and grows the inherent talent of a new artist.

The artists pictured above are working in the studio on their first EP with multi-talented grammy winning producer Pat Regan (pictured below) during a CardoCamp session, a program specially tailored to, at a minimum, give new talent a brief insight into artist development, and to help give these new artists the proper tools to move forward in the music business.

One of the keystones of artists development is collaboration. I will have an in-depth post on this all important subject in another post, but for the moment, let me just say that the interaction with others, particularly professional producers, is extremely valuable to any artist's growth. You need that extra set of ears, that outside viewpoint, and that expertise to move forward and continue on your path of developing.

In concluding this post, let me emphasize that success in this business is a team effort, not a singular one.
