Back In The Studio

Back in the studio recording a new song, "Take Back America". It felt great getting behind the mic to do some vocals on my upcoming single release. Musicians and singers all gathered for a week at the new studio of my good friend, John Payne. It's a really cool studio too, with the emphasis being primarily analog, very old school, and very great sound. This focus on recording, analog to digital and back to analog, results in pristine sound; and is also the name of the studio, ADA Recording, located in Las Vegas.

Perhaps my greatest pleasure in this business, is seeing the songs come to life. Working in the studio, tweaking and experimenting, recording and re-recording, adding a variety of touches to make each song unique and bring the creation to life is pure joy. A honest to god labor of love. Nothing really matches that feeling of hearing your song live and breath through the studio monitors for the first time. It's quite a sense of accomplishment.

I've worked on a number of projects with John, both his and mine. Every time it's magic, as we both have a great instinct and understanding of where each is going, and what each wants out of a project. We always seem to be on the same page, which is critically important when creating songs. I find it very interesting as well, as we come from such vastly different musical backgrounds. To me, this is more proof that music is indeed the universal language.

On this particular recording, I had the great pleasure of working with sax player extraordinaire Charles McNeal (below). His contributions to this piece really elevated it several notches, making it quite memorable. Thanks Charles !
