Beginnings Part 2

Along with "Buffalo Springfield Again", this record, "Winds of Change" by Eric Burdon and the Animals was the other game changer in my life. I had always the liked The Animals, particularly Eric Burdon's voice, but this record, after the band refreshed and re-organized (hence the "new" animals") pushed all boundaries.

The earlier hits like " Don't Bring Me Down", "It's my Life", and "When I Was Young" were great, no question, but with this record , Eric started writing and the result was such amazing songs as "San Franciscan Nights" and "Anything".

As fortune would have it, the tour of this record was the second concert I ever saw. During the concert they also played "Sky Pilot", about a chaplain during the Vietnam war, "Monterrey", a tribute to the first real rock music festival, Monterrey Pop, and "White Houses", one of the first strong social commentary songs on inequality.

They wrote and sang about things that mattered, and that left a permanent impression on me which I try to incorporate in my writing. Between the Buffalo Springfield and Eric Burdon and The Animals (pictured below), the path for my musical journey through life was formed.
