House Concerts

House concerts, like above, are becoming a burgeoning cottage business. They are really a win-win situation for all involved. The audience gets to hear some pretty damn good music, and usually gets some food and beverage, all for a pretty modest price, around $20. If you get there early enough, you can get a pretty comfy seat too. And of course you can meet people and make new friends in a very non-threatening environment.

For newer, up and coming artists, particularly acoustic oriented artists, whether solo or a band, these house concerts provide a great platform for exposure, testing new material, selling a bit of merchandise, and building a fan base. As with the audience, you too will get to meet people and make new friends (your fanbase), you'll also get fed, and you'll get paid from the admission tickets.

These are particularly great for the solo artist as the cost involved is minimal, usually gas, maybe a night's motel room. You won't get rich from doing this, but you can definitely make a living at it. I know several artists that have built a considerable fan bases in this manner.

If you search "house concerts" you'll find various organizations and individuals that co-ordinate these events. I've held some in my house for newer talent, and played them as well. There's nothing like a nice intimate setting with one to one audience contact for a good show. House concerts can be held year round, and even outdoors (below) weather permitting. If the weather turns nasty, they can easily move indoors, no problem. Like I said, it's a win-win for everyone.
