My First Guitar

Cardo

Updated: Apr 12, 2021

Ok, Ok. Yes, this was YEARS ago. We all have to start somewhere. Anyway, this was my first guitar, at age 12, a prized Harmony Stella. Honestly, no, it was not a very good guitar, but to me it was fabulous at the time. You will notice the retro 60's decor of the house; however, it really wasn't retro, it was the 60's.

I had grown up listening to the great vocalists from my dad's record collection. People like Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and so many others. By the time this picture was taken, my focus had shifted to newer artists. Neil Diamond was a favorite, as were Roy Orbison, and Peter, Paul and Mary. And, of course, there was The Beatles. This was still a bit before The Buffalo Springfield (see the separate post).

An old Hammond chord organ (on the righthand edge of the picture above) was the first instrument I tackled, even playing a 40's song, "Peg o' My Heart" on a local radio station. Next I moved to violin, but that only lasted one year, as didn't care that much for the instrument, and absolutely loathed the teacher. So I graduated to this guitar. I was on my way.
