The Plight of the Homeless

Help Me, Tell Me

A song about the homeless

"That cart held everything that man owned

It was his home

What do you when you run into someone like that?

What are you going to do?

Do you avoid his eyes and look at the sky?

Do you look away?

Will you trade places with him for a day?

Help me, tell me

Help me out, before you go

Help me out, before you go"

The plight of the homeless, the far too many homeless in this country, the richest country in the world, was the inspiration for the above lyrics of the song "Help Me , Tell Me" from my first record. I would see so many, just like the ones above, walking back and forth, to and from the studio in Los Angeles while recording. It was heartbreaking. Talking with them was even more heartbreaking. They just want to be heard, to have a voice, to have a chance, and to have someone care.

In Los Angeles the contrast is particularly dramatic, with mercedes, jaguars, and BMWs whizzing by on the streets adjacent, while the drivers and passengers alike are living in their own little bubble worlds, oblivious to humanity. So I bought them some meals, coffees, waters, cigarettes, and wrote and recorded the song. It wasn't enough, but it was something. And I listened to them.
